Becoming’s Bylaws
On August 21, 2005 Becoming officially adopted bylaws to govern our community. Up until this time we had been operating under our Charter, which was adopted in 2001. With the incorporation of Becoming as a non-profit church in the District of Columbia, the change to official bylaws was required.
All prospective members are required to read the bylaws.

We understand the Bylaws can be a lot to read when you are just looking for basic information on membership requirements and such. So here are a few basics.
Becoming Basics:
Membership in Becoming is rather easy to obtain, but is not necessary to continue participating in Becoming events. We have Friends who have celebrated with us for a few years and chosen not to take on the commitment of Membership. Once you have attended a Sunday “Circle of Connection”, you are considered a Friend.
To become a Member, you need to attend four (4) Sunday Circles within an eight (8) month period. At your third monthly Circle, you should talk to the Celebrant if you would like to step forward as a Member at the following month’s Circle. It is your responsibility to contemplate whether Becoming is the right group for you and your level of commitment to the group, and to initiate this conversation.
Becoming Members are asked three (3) things:
- To read, understand, and follow Becoming’s bylaws,
- To strive to see the divine everywhere and in everything, and
- To uphold Becoming’s core values of honesty, respect, and commitment to themselves, others, and the group as a whole.
Becoming Members are eligible to sponsor official Becoming events – moon circles, holidays, outings, classes, and social events. Just talk to the Celebrant and Steward about your ideas and they will guide you in taking point for the event.
Becoming Members are also able to take advantage of the Journey program, a series of seven (7) courses of study and personal experience that are developed by your and a guide. The Journeys help you to bring awareness, intention, and an enhanced sense of purpose to your life. The Journeys include personal transformation, creativity, ritual, scholarship, service, community, and magick.
Once you are a Member, you need to attend six (6) official events in a twelve (12) month period, with at least three (3) of those being Circles of Connection, to maintain your active membership.
